Luke Borg bounced back in style to win the second round of the Malta Mountain Bike Association Cisk 0.0 Cross Country Series at Majjistral Park on Saturday afternoon.

ELITE Category

Leading from the start, Borg maintained a comfortable gap over first race winner Clyve Chetcuti, who despite strong efforts had to settle for second. Behind them, Mark Bonnici and Etienne Bonello were locked in a battle for third, until a fall in the second lap for Bonnici allowed Bonello to push through and claim the final podium spot.

In the overall standings, Chetcuti holds a slim advantage over Borg heading into the third and final race, which will decide the Men's Elite series title.

LADIES Category

In the Ladies Category, Diana Muscat rode to a clear victory ahead of Fiona Tedesco in second and Michelle Mifsud in third.

SPORT and MASTERS Categories

The Sport Category saw a strong field take to the course, though two riders were forced to withdraw with flat tyres. Josmar Vella took the win, with Roderick Borg and Andrew Curmi completing the podium in second and third respectively. Vella currently is in the lead, together with Keith Bartolo, in the overall classification.

The 40+ Category produced the day's closest finish, with Jamie Camilleri and Alex Portelli racing neck and neck before Camilleri edged the win. Gordon Zahra completed the podium shortly after. Camilleri's victory sees him draw level with Zahra in the overall classification.

Stephen Grima, absent from the opening race, took the win in the 50+ Category ahead of Ramon Grech and Domenic Cutajar, who retains the overall lead in this category.

Xavier Vicente Gaspar won the U19 Boys race ahead of Ryan Gatt and Andrei Cassone, with Gatt continuing to lead the overall classification.

Neil Cassar was the sole competitor in the U17 Boys category.

In the U17 Girls race, Katie-Anne Vella Wood claimed her second consecutive win ahead of Nina Debono Curmi.

In the Junior categories, the U15 Boys race was won by Ethan Cumbo, followed by Zack Saliba and Jake Said, while Kim Micallef Cann topped the U15 Girls race ahead of Amy St John.

Nolan Tabone and Nick Said contested the U12 Boys race, and Amy Micallef Cann took part in the U12 Girls race.

A well-attended fun race for young riders brought the event to a close.

The Malta Mountain Bike Association is grateful for the support of Cisk 0.0, the alcohol free award winning lager as well as secondary sponsors Solar Solutions Ltd, Majjistral Park and the numerous volunteers who acted as Race Marshalls throughout the race.

The final race of the Cisk 0.0 Cross Country Series will take place at 4pm on Saturday 30th May in Miżieb.
